OMNISPHERE 2.5 WONT UPDATE PATCH

  • A supported hardware synth will have easier and potentially more parameter control of patch modification on a patch created for that synth.
  • Patch creation in Omnisphere will reflect closely the way that a patch is created on the hardware synth.
  • So the creative process can be enhanced with multiple hardware controllers that control the same Omnisphere parameter.
  • Different hardware synths will have different 'profiles' to control the same function in Omnisphere.
  • If the hardware doesn't have granular synthesis, it won't have controls for that function.
  • As a result, not all hardware synths can control all software functions.
  • Instead of designing hardware controls to be generically linked to a parameter, physical hardware controls do the same task, regardless of which engine is being controlled.
  • The Omnisphere user interface treats every hardware control as an integral part of the user interface in the same basic way that the hardware synth does. Omnisphere takes this concept and runs with it.

We all know that every hardware synth has a unique way of using its hardware features (knobs, buttons, sliders, mod wheels, X-Y pads, etc.) to control its internal parameters. As I re-watched the videos from Spectrasonics and third party reviewers, I gradually started to understand that this integration was an entirely new paradigm that linked the software synth's (Omnisphere) engine to the underlying method of parameter control designed into the hardware synth's engine. But there is definitely more to the story when you look closer.

My initial impression watching the videos was that the supported hardware synths acted like a very specifically mapped virtual instrument controller. I know my old Motif 7 doesn't.When I first saw the hardware integration with Omnisphere 2.5, I was curious. Not all controls put out standard messages if the output anything at all tot the outside world.

OMNISPHERE 2.5 WONT UPDATE FOR MAC

Try putting a MIDI monitor on the incoming MIDI stream to your computer (snoize for Mac users and midiox for Windows) and you'll see what I mean. The only thing that seems to work well with any Yamaha synth/module is Yamaha's own s/w. I don't think it's a licensing deal at all but the way Yamaha synths talk back and forth to the outside world which is a nightmare. Wonder if there's a licensing thing with Yamaha?Ī still looks cool and if you already have Omni 2.0, the upgrade is Free. In fact I don't see ANY Yamaha's included on the list, which I find puzzling. Sadly, I don't see my Yamaha Motif XS listed there! I really hope they will add that one. There's a partial list of what will be supported on the web page. He said they have about 20 profiles created so far, and will be adding all the time. They essentially have created profiles of several different hardware synths which will allow those to be used as full on controllers for Omnisphere, capturing the unique flavor of each different one.

Best of all, the update is FREE for all 2.0 users! There's a good video on it on the page with Eric Persig. It will include hardware synth integration and add many news sounds, patches and multis. Just saw this news from Spectrsonics regarding the upcoming release of Ominsphere 2.5.
